A group of American scientists has handed an application for the first in the world fully synthetic live organism.
No, genetically modified organisms have been patent and earlier, but in this case we are talking about of completely synthetic genome, made by human hands. As creators of synthetic cell said, the project can have a commercial meaning. For example, it is possible to create a bacterium, which will produce a hydrogen or ethanol fuel.
From one side – it is a good thing…not for nothing in many fantastical novels there are “synthesizer of the food”, for example – it is very comfortable, and the problem of hunger is solved…
From the other side …genetically modified products, synthetic organisms, synthetic intellect…For me for example, I feel uncomfortable regarding this…
